Bottom Line Basics was formed on a very simple concept: Everyone in business wants to get to the bottom line, but many small business owners don’t have the basics to get to it.

Small business owners know their product, their service, their industry, their market, and their customers. That doesn’t mean they come with an automatic knowledge of accounting, how to set up an accounting system, or how to work with the many choices of accounting software.

Owners don’t usually want to perform these functions either, and don’t want to spend or have the time to learn how to. Their time needs to be spent on fulfillment of products and services, sales development, and customer service. Owners know they need someone to manage the money.

CPAs are not hands-on in a day-to-day capacity for the owner. Many small businesses, especially in the beginning, call on a family member or a receptionist to perform the functions of: billing customers, paying vendors, making deposits, recording transactions and so on. They do what needs to be done. That doesn’t mean it’s done correctly, with results that can be transferred easily to a set of financial reports, and trying to maintain compliance with tax agencies can be mind boggling or worse, not done at all!
